When Adrianna Neil, 26, of Vancouver went to a screening of the live-action Beauty and the Beast on March 16, she thought her boyfriend, Ryan Langston, 28, was just giving her an early birthday gift. Little did she know that she would be getting a love story that rivals the one in the fairy tale itself.
Ryan, a graphic animator, had decided to create a movie trailer in order to propose to Adrianna, and then screen it at the movie theater just before the premiere of the widely-anticipated film.
Sure, there have been (many) other movie trailer proposals in the past, but this one is special. For example, it's usually pretty clear what's happening right away, because it begins with footage of the young lovers. In this case, however, Ryan used what appears to be stock footage as the narrator talked about how sometimes strangers become good friends, and how then "good friends become so much more."
At this point, it could still be an ad for birth control or a digital photo frame, you know?! But then, the narrator gets oddly specific, reminiscing about some of your first dates (also to the movies), or your trip to Victoria, your dreams of traveling to Italy and Scotland, and you can see Adrianna start to understand what's going on or at least panicking for a hot second that she was in The Truman Show all along. It makes the big payoff all the sweeter and yes, she said yes.
(And yes, you are tearing up over it.)
