Seven months after her daughter’s chaotic birth, a mother in Florida is fuming after receiving an enormous hospital bill.
As 7NEWS reports, Paula D'Amore welcomed her baby girl back in April—in the hospital parking lot.
"We drove up, my husband ran out and I said she's crowning and her head came out," D'Amore explained.
Immediately after running inside for help, D’Amore says her husband caught their daughter’s head in Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s parking lot.
"To me it was beautiful. It didn't matter if it was in my house or in the car, or in the hospital," said D'Amore.
Although nurses from the hospital helped out near the end of the delivery, D’Amore says she and her husband did most of the work in welcoming their daughter, Daniella.
Now, seven months later, D’Amore and her husband were absolutely floored when they received a $7,000 bill from the hospital for the delivery room charge.
"I mean like yes, charge, but not $7,000," said D'Amore, who admitted that she did deliver the placenta in the hospital. "They are basically saying that everything was billed appropriately.”
D’Amore did plan for the costs of the delivery before their daughter arrived, but they assumed the hospital would adjust their bill since Daniella wasn’t actually born in the hospital.
"I knew that I was responsible for the $5,000 deductible. I get it, I'm going to pay the bill, that's not the issue, the issue is that I'm like, I look at this delivery charge and I think that's a little outrageous," said D'Amore.
