Rebecca Wanosik of Missouri recently became a mother for the sixth time. One evening she received a text from a friend asking her to help a child in need. The child's mother had recently undergone an operation and could not breastfeed. Her baby was hungry but refused to take a bottle. Rebecca, who was still breastfeeding her own baby, was more than happy to jump in and breastfeed the other woman's hungry baby.
"When the baby arrived you could tell she was hungry and exhausted and just needed some milk," wrote Rebecca on her Facebook page. "I did what I hope anyone would do for my child in a time of despair. I fed a stranger's baby. I was so surprised by just how many people thought it was weird or unnatural... Regardless, I took an amazing photo tandem nursing these two babies together and it shows that hungry babies don't care, they just need to be fed." The photo, which shows the two cuties linking fingers as they enjoy their meal, has since received almost 200,000 likes on Facebook.
But not all of the reaction has been positive. Many people criticized Rebecca for showing her breasts so publicly and others found the idea of breastfeeding a stranger's baby "gross." Facebook took the complaints so seriously that it blocked her profile temporarily due to the "pornographic" content. Rebecca was completely taken aback by these reactions. "I was so surprised by just how many people thought it was weird or unnatural. They are boobs, they are meant to feed babies. Also, in case anyone forgot, they are mine, so I'm fairly certain I choose what happens with them."
The mother of the baby girl who received the much needed breastmilk from Rebecca is extremely grateful for her help. And Rebecca is certain that despite all of the negative backlash, she wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
