It was in March of 2012 when conservationist and author, Lawrence Anthony passed on. Lawrence was best known by his nickname, “The Elephant Whisperer”.

Indeed this nickname was not only earned as you will see, but continued to carry on even after his death. Something that simply one can not explain ended up happening.

Two herds of wild South African elephants slowly proceeded through the Zululand bush. Their destination? The house of Lawrence Anthony. It took them 12 hours.
These are normally, and were formerly, very violent elephants, considered rogue, and were going to be shot a few years back as they were considered “pests”. Then Lawrence stepped in, rescued the elephants and rehabilitated them.
When they arrived at the house, they stayed for two days in what appeared to be a vigil for the man.

Here’s what Lawrence’s son Dylan had to say:
“They had not visited the house for a year and a half and it must have taken them about 12 hours to make the journey. The first herd arrived on Sunday and the second herd, a day later. They all hung around for about two days before making their way back into the bush.”
The question is, how did they know that Lawrence had indeed died?
Rabbi Leila Gal Berner, Ph.D., provides an answer:
“A good man died suddenly, and from miles and miles away, two herds of elephants, sensing that they had lost a beloved human friend, moved in a solemn, almost ‘funereal’ procession to make a call on the bereaved family at the deceased man’s home.”
“If there ever were a time, when we can truly sense the wondrous interconnectedness of all beings, it is when we reflect on the elephants of Thula Thula. A man’s heart’s stops, and hundreds of elephants’ hearts are grieving. This man’s oh-so-abundantly loving heart offered healing to these elephants, and now, they came to pay loving homage to their friend.”
Truly amazing. Share with all of your animal loving friends and family!
