After weeks of complaining of stomach aches, Simon couldn't figure out what was causing his son so much pain. With a little investigating, Simon found the disgusting culprit inside an unlikely source.

Doesn't Look Bad From The Outside

To his dismay, the stomach aches persisted and Simon was desperate to find the cause. That's when Simon caught a wiff of something putrid coming from his son's Tommee Tippee sippy cup.

They Had No Idea

He traced the source of the smell to the cup's sealed anti-leak feature. Simon cut open the plastic and discovered something absolutely revolting - the inside of the piece was completely covered in mold!
He was mortified that his son had been drinking something this filthy for so long.

Tommee Tippee's Not The Only One

Many parents are unaware that most sippy cups with removable anti-spill compartments are at risk of collecting mold! Tiny particles stick and grow, especially if they're left sitting with liquid for extended periods of time.

The Woes Of Sistema

Tommee Tippee isn't the only sippy cup company with a major issue on their hands - Sistema is another brand that has been under fire recently.
Their Twist ‘N’ Sip cup has sparked outrage amongst parents all over the globe who have discovered large colonies of mold growing in the cups' lids as well!

Serious Medical Problems

One concerned dad whose daughter was using the Sistema cup told Good Housekeepingjust how furious he was when he discovered the mold growing inside the lid.

"The internal components have been hoarding bacteria. We were horrified and heartbroken that our little girl had been using this bottle in this state.”

Ingesting mold can cause a series of mild to serious health issues including stuffy noses, sore throats, coughing or wheezing, and severe eye and skin irritation. Parents have also reported that sippy cups have have caused diarrhea, vomiting and other tummy issues.

Think Twice And Be Thorough

Tommee Tippee has stated that their company isn't entirely to blame - the use and cleaning instructions for their sippy cups were written to avoid this type of issue specifically.

"The results support that when used with recommended liquids... there are no problems. Difficulties have arisen though when liquids that are not recommended for use in the cups have been used, like thick formula milk, pulpy juice, and warm liquids."

The company also warns parents not to leave the cups filled with liquid for very long before washing! Even if you follow the cleaning instructions perfectly, there's no way to know that mold won't grow inside the anti-spill compartment. The only thing you can do is clean the cup to the best of your ability or opt for a cup with a simpler and easier to clean design!
