Brown bears are considered peaceful creatures in their natural habitat. But when they feel threatened, a normally placid bear can become very dangerous. When this friendly member of the bear species began to encircle a house in Florida, he had to act fast.

It's impossible to avoid tranquilization when bears come near humans, because an encounter could be deadly.

In order to release him back into the wild, this particular bear had to be taken out of commission with a tranquilizer dart. But unfortunately, it didn’t work!

The bear fled and ran towards the open water of a nearby lake. The real danger was that the tranquilizer would take effect in the water, causing the bear to drown.

Adam Warwick, a biologist from the Wildlife Commission, saw the disaster approaching and in a rush of adrenaline threw himself into the water.

His sanity must have been clouded, because this would normally have been considered a suicide mission.

But his choice was a good one: The bear couldn’t move his legs anymore. Without intervention, the bear would have certainly drowned.

But they were still over 50 feet away from the shore. People tried their best to assist from boats.

But the bear was too heavy to lift.

So Adam did the unimaginable: He swam on his back to the shore, dragging the bear with him.

After what seemed like an eternity, he safely brought the 350-pound animal to land.

The dazed bear could then be transported back into the wilderness.

Adam even had the chance to bid him adieu. His courage saved the bear’s life.

Most of us wouldn’t have had the courage to do what Adam did. The bear could have swiped his paw and ended Adam's life. But luckily, this animal found a hero.
